Sanskrit, is a historical Indo-Aryan language and the primary language of Hinduism and Buddhism. It is known as the mother of all languages in India. it is known as Vedic Sanskrit, with the language of the Rigveda being the oldest and most archaic stage preserved, its oldest core dating back to as early as 1500 BCE. Sanskrit continues to be widely used as a ceremonial language in Hindu religious rituals in the forms of hymns and mantras. Spoken Sanskrit is still in use in a few traditional institutions in India. sanskrit is a difficult language in view of pronunciation of words and grammar; and the regular use of the language as a mother tongue still needs to be developed for frequent uses. But if you can speak sanskrit then it would not be difficult for you to spell out many words from other prominent languages.

As i had sanskrit for my school subjects along with HINDI, i started taking interest in learning the language more. i appeared for my sanskrit scholarship while in 6th standard. Sanskrit literature shells a rich tradition of poetry and drama as well as scientific, technical, philosophical and Hindu religious texts. we had sanskrit 'shlokas' and 'shubhashitas'; verses conveying an
insight into different aspects of life usually taken from 'Ramayana' or 'Mahabharata' . Below are the few verses or 'shubhashitas' which are very commenly versed yet i would like to share with you all for the sheer reason of reminding the lessons our 'wise' saints are trying to inflict in us.

  1. उपकारिषु यः साधुः सधुत्वे तस्य को गुणः ।
    अपकारिषु यः साधुः स साधुरिति कीर्तितः ॥

MEANING: What is the greatness in doing good for good?Doing good in return of bad is real goodness.
